Professor M. Tattersall Heroes Award
Announced for the first time in 2021, this Award seeks to recognise contributions by medical oncologists that honour the spirit and commitment of the late Prof Martin Tattersall AO, and his significant contributions to the establishment and development medical oncology in Australia.
Prof Tattersall AO was a giant of medical oncology, a founding member and the first chair of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA).
2022 Heroes Award recipient
Dr Yada Kanjanapan
Dr Yada Kanjanapan, Staff Specialist in Medical Oncology at the Canberra Hospital has been selected to receive the 2022 Professor M. Tattersall Heroes Award in recognition of her significant contribution to Medical Oncology in Australia and professional practice, by providing outstanding leadership on the role of COVID vaccination for individuals with cancer.

Ms Kay Francis
Kay’s dedicated work and outstanding commitment have provided invaluable strategic management and professional guidance to MOGA over more than 2 decades, as the national professional organisation for Australian medical oncology and the profession; and, as a specialty society of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
2021 Heroes Award recipient
Professor Anna Nowak
Professor Nowak is a Medical Oncologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and is the Director of the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD) based at UWA. She has led transformative research in mesothelioma with profound and far-reaching impacts on people with this fatal condition. Experimental work from her PhD showed that chemotherapy and immunotherapy were synergistic, which has ultimately led to the development of three clinical trials of chemo-immunotherapy in mesothelioma, including the positive DREAM clinical trial and the international DREAM3R trial. She also championed the practice changing CheckMate- 743 trial. She was instrumental in establishing a cross-disciplinary state-wide Western Australian neuro-oncology service.
