An exciting opportunity to work as a Clinical Fellow in the Medical Oncology Service has arisen for a period of 12 months commencing in 2025. The Fellow will work at an intermediary level between the Advanced Trainee Registrars and Consultants in the service.
Purpose / Role Details
The Clinical Fellow position in the Medical Oncology Service has arisen for a period of 12 months commencing in 2025. The Fellow will work at an intermediary level between the Advanced Trainee Registrars and Consultants in the service, with a focus in areas of research and clinical trials.
The Medical Oncology Clinical Fellow position is aimed at a senior advanced trainee or specialist registrar who has completed their training years in Medical Oncology. The fellowship will aim at extending your knowledge and expertise in Medical Oncology in preparation for entering your consultant years. You will be involved in all aspects of clinical care of Medical Oncology patients at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The successful applicant to the position will work across the breadth of services including providing clinical services, participating in clinical trials activities, and providing supervision and education to junior medical staff working in Medical Oncology.
It is expected the positions will take on a leadership role in developing further a research collaborative within the department as part of the duties during the 12-month period of appointment. It is also expected that the successful applicant with develop a clinical research project within the department, collaborating with other speciality services
Key Duties and Accountabilities
Fulfill the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Public Service and the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) values.
Carry out the role of a Medical Oncology Clinical Fellow as follows:
· Provide outpatient and inpatient Medical Oncology services at a level intermediary between the Advanced Trainees and Consultants
· Assist the Clinical trials team in the review and co-ordination of patients on or being considered for clinical trials
· Provide immediate supervision to the Nurse Practitioner for Cancer Urgent Assessment Clinic
· Participate in the On Call Roster
· Assist the Consultant staff in the supervision and Education of junior medical staff within the Medical Oncology team.
· Work with the Consultant team to develop the departmental research collaborative and research clinics.
· Involvement in research with the aim of completing at least one publication within the year.
Ensure that corporate operations and corporate policies and procedures comply with and are implemented in accordance with the relevant legislation and statutory requirements, Queensland standards and guidelines, and Corporate and District policies.
Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals.

Mandatory Qualifications / Professional Registration / Other Requirements
Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or one of the following boards below. Certified copies of relevant qualification and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
The candidate must be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or expected to be by the starting date of the position.
It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment (Health Employment Directive No. 01/16):
measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
varicella (chicken pox)
pertussis (whooping cough)
hepatitis B
It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19 (Health Employment Directive No. 12/21 and Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70).
