Members Update | National Oncology Drugs Shortages
MOGA is aware of on-going national shortages of key oncology drugs (notably older drugs such as carboplatin and capecitabine) and is actively working with the TGA Shortages Section and other regulatory bodies to address these issues as they arise. We have been requested to provide a list of Essential Oncology Drugs to the TGA with an outline of their place in clinical practice to ensure the Department is aware of the clinical requirements and the potential impact that any shortages will have, above all with regard to older drugs and therapeutic options, on patients.
With regard to any shortages MOGA recommends members in the first instance check with their local hospital pharmacy as they may already have a plan in place to manage any shortages and if required they can contact wholesale suppliers and distributors that can provide specific information on stock levels and access.
Please refer to the TGA website for more information on medicines shortages and discontinuations: https://www.tga.gov.au/safety/shortages/improvements-managing-medicine-shortages-and-discontinuations
See below contact details for the TGA Medicines Shortages area who welcome any input the working group is able to provide on the impacts of shortages or particular concerns it wishes to raise.
